Job Summary:

Entry Level Lighting Designer is a beginning level position for someone that has minimal or no design experience. The Entry Level Lighting Designer will provide support to the lighting team in a fully engaged role, promoting the development of fundamental lighting design skills and proficiency including design creativity, production, and analysis. This designer will be responsible for learning EMA’s design processes, setting up projects, and learning to keep track of project deliverables and project deadlines, adhering to EMA core values, etc. The goal for an entry level lighting designer is to work on increasing skills, knowledge, efficiency, etc. on a weekly basis to the extent they can actively engage a production team and support that team with accurate detailed drafting and basic design. The technical accuracy of work, project responsibilities and improvements to skills, knowledge, efficiency, etc. will be reviewed daily or weekly (depending on the task) by the Training Leader, Team Leader and the Department Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up all projects with all applicable sheets, views, notes, symbols, details, schedules, diagrams, etc.
  • Learn and apply EMA design processes, deliverables requirements, owner requirements, city requirements, etc. to all design projects.
  • Learn what code requirements govern our design, such as NEC, IESNA, IECC, etc.
  • Learn what specifications are and show proof of ability to set up project specifications and edit them.
  • Take design criteria, rough sketches, “redlines”, discussed ideas or cut sheets and properly apply design and drafting of the systems to the drawings.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners to develop lighting solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Assist designers, engineers, and project managers in the execution of specific assignments.
  • Prepare lighting design calculations and documentation for schematic design, design development and construction documents.
  • Select equipment, systems, and products related to projects.
  • Demonstrate creative skills with the ability to balance architectural lighting aesthetics and client preferences with practical considerations.
  • Take photos and record field work via pen and paper or stylus and tablet to accurately describe existing conditions on a site visit.
  • Conduct field work as needed for design which may include but is not limited to driving to a
  • Job site, extensive walking, climbing on ladders, crawling through crawlspaces, attic spaces, over parapet walls, and walking on a roof.

Education/Requirements:

  • Associate of Applied Science in Engineering Design Technology, a Certificate of Proficiency in Computer-Aided Drafting, Interior Design, or an equivalent education is preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of REVIT and/or AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
